Where is Edge of the World in Arizona?
Edge of the World (also known as East Pocket) is a scenic overlook that you can get to from Flagstaff that peeps over Sedona. It is on the southernmost edge of the Colorado Plateau along the Mogollon Rim which is a beautiful stretch of 200 miles of dramatic cliffs. Edge of the World is not the easiest place to get to which makes it great for an adventure session! It’s down a 26 mile dirt road where more than half is not maintained. You can expect it to take ~1 hour to drive each way, preferably in a high clearance vehicle but not completely necessary if you go slow and can maneuver washboards, bumps and ruts.
Can you Camp at Edge of the World?
Yes, you can camp at dispersed campsites along Edge of the World for free, managed by the Coconino National Forest. The sites are first-come, first-served. It is expected that you follow the Leave No Trace principles to preserve the landscape. You basically want to vanish in the wind and not disrupt your surroundings! Wouldn’t it be fun to do an adventure session here? Then camp under the dark sky and see literally millions of stars? It’s the best.

When is the best time of year to visit Edge of the World?
The best time of year to visit Edge of the World is from late spring through late autumn, May-October. Outside of this timeframe Forest Road 231 closes for winter.
What should you wear for an Edge of the World adventure session?
For an Edge of the World photoshoot, choose earthy, warm tones like terracotta, emerald green (!), mustard, or deep rust to contrast beautifully with the pine trees and red rocks. Because the terrain is uneven, it is highly recommended to wear stable, broken-in hiking boots for safety and mobility! Additionally, layers! The month of May can be quite windy and evenings cool off quickly.
I love this location because it is (quite) off the beaten path and it has views of Sedona without BEING in Sedona. Furthermore, there’s something special about the ooey-gooey light that spills over the pine trees and beyond the rim.
Now for the banger of a photo at my favorite time of the evening which is known as blue hour, the moments right after the sun sets below the horizon. The light is so romantic and you can feel the mood shift.
